What happens when the site goes down
Monitoring detects an outage within minutes and notifies us automatically. We start reacting without waiting for a report from the client.
Outages usually have one of three causes: a problem on the hosting side, an expired certificate, or an error introduced by the last change. The first two are resolved in a quarter of an hour, the third by rolling back to the last working version.
That is why we keep a version history and daily backups. Restoring the site to how it was before the failure is a matter of minutes, not of rebuilding it from memory.
After every longer outage you get a short note: what happened, why, and what we did so it does not repeat. Without the technical jargon.
