What video formats social media needs
Horizontal 16 by 9 for the site and YouTube, vertical 9 by 16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, square 1 by 1 for the company channel. You get every spot in all three.
The same film posted everywhere in a horizontal frame loses over half the screen on a phone and loses out to material prepared vertically. That is the most common mistake made by companies that order one file and try to cover everything with it.
Reframing is not about cutting off the sides. The frame has to be recomposed and the captions moved so they do not slide under the app interface, which covers the bottom and the right edge.
Then there are subtitles. A large share of footage on a phone is watched without sound, so a spot without subtitles loses its message before anyone turns the speaker on.
