How many photos does a product in an online shop need
Three per product at minimum: the main one on a plain background, a shot showing scale or use, and a close up of a detail. For clothing and furniture a fourth one in a real setting is worth adding.
The main photo earns the click from the listing, so it has to read clearly as a thumbnail. A frame that is too tight or too decorative loses on the listing to a simple, well lit shot.
The remaining photos drive the decision and the returns. A customer who cannot see the scale buys blind and often sends it back. One shot with a hand, on a table or in a room solves that more cheaply than handling a return.
A close up of the detail matters wherever the price comes from the quality of the work: the seams, the material, the finish of an edge. That is what justifies the difference from cheaper competition.
