WooCommerce, Shopify or a custom built shop

WooCommerce gives you full control and needs constant technical care, Shopify takes maintenance off your hands in exchange for a subscription and a commission, and a custom built shop makes sense wherever your sales have a logic of their own.

WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin, so it inherits both its strengths and its weaknesses: you can build almost anything, but somebody has to keep an eye on updates, backups and performance. With a few hundred products and proper care it works very well, with a few thousand items and no administrator it starts to slow down and play tricks.

Shopify is the opposite approach. You get stability, a fast launch and no worries about the server, but you are moving inside somebody else's ecosystem. Unusual requirements, such as a product configurator, prices that depend on the wholesale customer, or deep warehouse integration, end in extra apps or in a wall.

We choose a custom built shop when the sales process does not fit a ready made platform, or when visibility and speed matter more than anything else. We always start the conversation by asking what your order looks like from the click to the shipment. The answer almost always points to the platform by itself.
