Your own store or selling through Allegro

Allegro brings traffic from day one and takes a commission on every sale. Your own store means building the traffic yourself, but the margin stays with you.

Marketplace commissions take a visible slice of every sale, and once turnover grows, that is enough to run your own store with room to spare. On top of that comes something more important: on a marketplace the customer belongs to the marketplace, not to you. You have no contact details and you will not build a relationship.

The sensible route usually runs through both channels at once. The marketplace stays as a source of traffic and a way to test the range, while your own store takes over returning customers and sales coming from search.

Run the numbers on your own figures before you decide. At low turnover your own store can be premature, at high turnover the commissions eat the whole profit.
