What a website audit checks

Loading speed, behaviour on a phone, technical correctness for search engines, security, accessibility, and whether the site leads a visitor to contact.

We start with measurements, because they are not up for debate: loading time on a phone over a mobile connection, layout stability while loading, response to touch. Google judges those three directly and they are what most often drag a site down.

The second part is the technical side for search engines: titles, descriptions, headings, the sitemap, structured data, redirects and addresses. Errors from that list are usually simple to fix, and they can hold back an entire site.

The third, most often skipped, is the path to contact. A site can be fast and correct and still bring no enquiries, because the form sits on the fourth screen and the phone number only in the footer.
