Do I need a logo and branding before we start the website
You need a logo in a vector file and a decision about colours. A full brand book is not a condition for starting and often comes later, based on what proved itself on the site.
If the logo exists only as an image cut out of an old leaflet, it will look bad on any decent screen. Redrawing the mark in vector is a short job and we do it at the start, so that the whole project is not built around a blurry file.
When there is no brand at all yet, we suggest the reverse of the classic order. First we settle how the company should be perceived and how it talks about itself, then we design the site, and the mark and the rest of the materials adapt to what actually works. The website is usually the first contact with a company today, so it is the one that sets the tone.
There is one thing we do not do. We do not open a project with weeks of discussion about the shade of a logo when the company needs enquiries from customers this quarter.
